Woke up this morning still having a high fever.. so I went to see my GP again, hoping to get stronger medicine.
It's been 5 days. and my temp is still at 39.4 degrees. and doc found that my throat inflammation is bad so she suggested that I be referred to TTSH A&E to do a blood test and see a ENT specialist. Dengue fever has been quite rampant recently. Hence, fever cases like mine are being attended to relatively quickly. I feel quite weak when I was waiting at the A&E for my blood test result, like going to black out... luckily (maybe God's intervention :) ) just at that moment, a hospital staff came round asking people whether they want a cup of hot milo. I asked for one and feel better after sipping the hot drink... and I am very grateful to Lawying who came down to accompany me. :) Feel that it is indeed better to have company just in case I really fainted.
Thank God my blood test result is ok. But my tonsils inflammation is really bad. The A&E doc immediately referred me to the ENT clinic. It was a long wait at the ENT clinic. Thankfully, Maureen bought us food coz Lawying and I were quite hungry by then.
The ENT doctor diagnosed my illness as a case of Glandular Fever. It's a viral infection that causes fever, headache and sore throat. She said the fever will take a few more days to clear and I will most probably experience chronic fatigue for 6 weeks. She put me on penicillin but said there is not much anti-biotics can do for this kind of infection. I need to fight it out...
I did some research on Glandular Fever: http://www.netdoctor.co.uk/diseases/facts/glandularfever.htm
Apparently, the incubation period for this illness is 30-50 days and many pple have little or no symptoms of the disease. I guess coz I have been having tonsillitis recurrently, i maybe more susceptible to it? also I think I contracted the virus in UK coz I remembered that about 1 month ago, I noticed that my lymph gland on the right was swollen. It went down after a few days so I thought nothing much of it. Little did I know that swollen lymph gland is a symptom of Glandular Fever...
So it may be a blessing after all that I came back? I cannot imagine what will happen if I am this sick in London. The past few days have really been quite unbearable, especially when the temp is up and I just feel myself burning away. Anyway, what I need to do now is to rest a lot. Guess I will need to postpone my return trip to UK till at least the fever is gone. And then I will have to decide whether I want to have my tonsils removed so that I won't have to be bothered by tonsillitis anymore...
Lord, thanks for giving me Lawying and Maureen who helped me a lot today. Thanks for the opportunity to see ENT specialist to get a diagnosis. Pls strengthen me and heal me.
